The GSO Crayford Focuser is a high-quality, backlash-free focusing unit designed for Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes. Precision CNC-machined from anodized aluminum with a durable matte-black finish, it combines excellent appearance with exceptional mechanical strength. The chrome-plated inner drawtube moves smoothly on four precision ball bearings, ensuring perfectly stable and precise focusing. Its interior surface is blackened and matte-finished to eliminate reflections and improve image contrast. The focuser is equipped with a 10:1 dual-speed microfocuser, allowing for fine adjustment of the focus point.
This focuser is dedicated for Schmidt-Cassegrain optical systems. It includes a 2" to 1.25" adapter and a 2" (M48×0.75) filter thread. The moving drawtube is engraved with a millimeter scale for convenient reference during focusing. The eyepiece holder is fitted with a practical clamping ring that securely holds accessories while protecting them from scratches.
The GSO SCT focuser eliminates the limitations of traditional focusing systems found in Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes—issues especially noticeable during astrophotography. Installation is simple: just thread the focuser onto the standard SCT rear cell thread. This design allows full 360° rotation for convenient positioning. A locking screw ensures the focuser can be securely fixed in any desired orientation.
The focuser is supplied with two adjustment screws. The first (closer to the telescope) locks the drawtube in position, allowing the use of heavy accessories without risk of focus shift. The second screw (closer to the eyepiece) adjusts the drawtube’s tension, enabling smooth travel according to user preference.

During normal use of a Crayford focuser built with ball bearings, two longitudinal lines may appear on the anodized drawtube surface. These marks are the result of contact between the bearings and the tube. In some cases, the lines will be faint; in others, more pronounced. They may even appear after only a few uses of a brand-new focuser.
The appearance of these lines does not indicate a defect or improper operation. It is a purely cosmetic effect inherent to this type of mechanical design and does not affect performance or durability.
>> FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS <<
Question: Can this focuser be attached to the Sky-Watcher MAK 127 OTAW (2" focuser)?
Answer:
Yes, it can. However, direct attachment is not possible—the focuser obstructs the stock focusing knob on the Mak 127 2" OTA, which is essential for coarse focusing. To use this GSO SCT focuser with the mentioned telescope, we recommend:
• installing the GSO Skylight Filter for SCT telescopes to extend the focuser slightly away from the rear cell
• removing the rubber cap from the telescope’s metal focusing knob – it is press-fitted (not glued) and can be easily replaced afterward
After performing these two steps, the focuser fits perfectly and operates correctly. Focusing is possible both via the Crayford focuser and the telescope’s primary mirror knob, providing full focusing range and excellent stability. Alternatively, similar SCT-threaded extensions or filters can be used if available.
