Silicagel, silica gel - drying agent, hygroscopic, having the ability to adsorb a large amount of moisture (water and steam) thanks to a porous structure with a very large surface area. It is the only sensible public reusable medium for fighting with moisture when transporting and storing specialized equipment (cameras, night-vision devices, as well as microscopes and binoculars)
Silicagel is safe for the environment and can be used repeatedly. The color of silica gel changes under the influence of moisture, so it indicates when it is required to dry it again to fulfill its task again.
When the colored granulate turns pale and gray, it means that the silica gel has reached moisture saturation. In order to regain its hygroscopic abilities, place it eg on a porcelain saucer or in another heat-resistant dish and put it in the oven. Then we gradually raise the temperature of the oven from 80 ° C to around 140 °. Do not pre-heat the oven and put the silica gel in a high temperature immediately - a rapid change in temperature and the release of water can break the grains of silica gel. When the granulate color becomes orange again, the product is ready for use again.
It is best to place the silica gel together with the devices that you want to protect from moisture, wrapped material (fabric, handkerchief, canvas bag) allowing free access of air. When not in use, the silica gel should be stored in airtight packaging without access of air, so that it is ready for use at any time.
