The SolarMax III 90 mm is the flagship model in the Coronado SolarMax family of solar telescopes. This instrument was designed from the ground up as a professional tool for Hα band solar observations using one or two narrowband filters (Fabry-Pérot etalons).
The optical system of the telescope is a classic achromatic refractor, using lenses covered with a full multilayer coating. The adaptation of the instrument for solar observation in the range of Hα radiation consists in the adaptation of one or two etalons with a very pass-through band, as well as an appropriate blocking filter, controlling the brightness and increasing the user's safety. In the basic configuration, the telescope uses one etalon, which provides a transmission of the Hα band with a width of <0.7 Å, which, in combination with the wide-range RichView ™ tuning system, allows achieving amazing contrast and level of detail in the entire field goodbye. The use of an optional second etalon allows the performance to be further improved by narrowing the transmission bandwidth to as little as <0.5 Å.
The construction of the SolarMax III 90 mm telescope has been developed in a way that enables easy disassembly of etalons, which, unlike other models, are not installed as an internal, integral part of the optical tube.
