Astronomik UHC astrophotography filter designed for Canon EOS cameras with APS-C sensors
The UHC filter transmits almost 100% of the O-III and H-beta radiation, as well as the H-alpha line. This filter is very effective at filtering out unwanted stray light, including artificial light pollution. By strongly blackening the background, it reveals the rich detail of gaseous and planetary nebulae. The Astronomik UHC filter improves the visibility of deep-sky objects (DSOs) even with a small telescope – it can be used with a telescope as small as 50mm (!)! The filter is designed for telescopes with apertures in the f/4-f/15 range. Transmission losses and chromatic distortion can only occur with extremely fast lenses, f/2 and faster. The filter's build quality is so high that star images are pinpoint, as if no filter were used. • visual observations under dark skies: very good, for all apertures, for large exit pupils • visual observations under city skies: very good, for telescopes with an aperture of at least 100 mm • film photography: acceptable for very long exposure times • CCD photography: good when used with an additional IR filter • unmodified SLR photography: good, color balance is shifted, but contrast increases • photography with a DSLR modified for astrophotography: very good, color balance is almost perfect • webcam/video camera for planetary photography: not applicable • webcam/video camera for nebular photography: good if light pollution at the observation site is a big problem • completely blocks annoying background wavelengths • almost 100% transmission of the O-III and H-beta lines • transmission for the H-alpha line is 96% • the perfect all-round nebula filter even for small telescopes • diffraction accuracy ( diffraction-limited ) • parfocal with other Astronomik filters • thickness: 1 mm • resistant to moisture, scratching, does not age, no residual material stresses
