The Baader Planetarium company has introduced the latest tool from the collection of "hat tricks" for astrophotographers. The Baader IR-Pass filter blocks waves below 685 nm. At longer lengths, planetary images are much less distorted by interference from atmospheric fronts ( seeing ). By combining the luminance image made by the IR-Pass filter with RGB frames, we achieve a significant improvement in the overall sharpness of the image. Many of the world's best amateur images of planetary nebulae have been made using this technique.
