Oil immersion is intended for use in microscopes equipped with oil immersion objectives - usually with 100x magnification and numerical aperture NA≥1.25. It can also be used as an immersion liquid for condensers intended for this purpose (e.g. for dark field, Abbe with NA≥1.25). The presented product is a high-class immersion oil intended for microscopy. It is refined and chemically treated cedar oil. Unlike ordinary cedar oil, it is characterized by almost complete lack of color, appropriate viscosity, low fluorescence and a high refractive index similar to glass: 1.516.
| • refractive index: | 1,516 | | • density (20°C): | 1.0246 g/cm^3 | | • 1 cm transmission for 380 nm wave: | ≥65% | | • 1 cm transmission for 400 nm wave: | ≥78% | | • 1 cm transmission at 450 nm wave: | ≥90% | | • fluorescence (excitation 365 nm): | 513 ppb | | • viscosity: | 113 mPa*s | | • producer: | Merck Life Science Sp. zoo / Sigma Aldrich; product packed by the seller | | • expiry date: | 31/05/2027 | | • volume: | ≥10 ml | | • packaging: | glass bottle with spatula/applicator |
The oil was tested for use in microscopy, also due to its effect on optics. The cap of the bottle in which the oil is distributed contains a special spatula that is used for precise application at the point of use. After unscrewing the cap, carefully remove it together with the spatula and wait a moment until the excess liquid from the tip of the spatula drips back into the bottle. Then we gently touch the end of the spatula to the place where we want to apply the immersion liquid. If you need a larger amount of immersion, immerse the spatula again in the bottle and repeat the operation. The cap should be screwed back on after use.
