The Sky-Watcher AZ-EQ6 GT mount is a novelty on the market of astronomical mounts. This structure can work both in the parallax system and in the azimuthal system. At the same time, it is a solid assembly based on the well-known and proven EQ6 design, modified and modernized.
The AZ-EQ6 assembly provides the load capacity and rigidity known from the classic EQ6 SynScan version, while being 25% lighter. The weight of the EQ6 mounts has always limited their mobility, which is definitely improved in this new design.
The head of this assembly weighs 15 kg, the tripod weighs 7.5 kg, and the load capacity of the whole (without counterweights) for the parallactic position is 20 kg. The whole thing is controlled by the GoTo SynScan system with a database of 42,900 objects. This assembly has one more unusual feature - in the azimuth position, it enables the simultaneous connection of two telescopes in a system resembling giro heads.
The assembly uses a dual encoder system that allows the head to be rotated manually without the need to re-set the GoTo system.
