Extension Tube is a bracket for mounting the SkyWatcher HEQ-5, allowing the head to be raised while maintaining stiffness equal to the rigidity of the assembly without this element. The bracket is mounted between the field tripod and the equatorial head.
The main advantage of using the cantilever is the comfort of working with long-point refractors in areas close to the zenith. It can be useful in working with catadioptric systems (MAK, ACF, SCT, etc.).
The bracket is also used in observations and astrophotographs close to the Earth's equator, as it prevents the counterweights from hitting the field tripod.
