The DWARF 3 Smart Telescope (DWARFLAB) is an ultra-portable, dual-camera system for astrophotography, gigapixel panoramas, and nature photography. It combines a 35mm periscopic telephoto lens (150mm focal length, 737mm equivalent) and a 3.4mm wide-angle lens (6.7mm focal length, 45mm equivalent) in a compact body weighing just 1.3kg and measuring 222 x 142 x 65mm. It utilizes a Sony IMX678 STARVIS 2 sensor (2µm pixel size), built-in filters, and a 5 TOPS NPU. The device automates search, tracking, and stacking, supports EQ mode for longer exposures in astrophotography, offers panorama mode with cloud stitching, and advanced birding functions. The housing meets the IP54 standard (dust, moisture, and dew).

Key features

• two cameras in one body: telephoto 35 mm (150 mm, equivalent to 737 mm) and wide angle 3.4 mm (6.7 mm, equivalent to 45 mm)
• Periscopic telephoto design and multi-element ED system, optimized to the diffraction limit for sharp stars and high-resolution detail
• Sony IMX678 STARVIS 2 sensor with 2 µm pixel (higher sensitivity and lower noise)
• built-in filters: telephoto - VIS / Astro / Dual-Band; wide-angle - Astro (for day and night photos)
• Astrophotography: automatic tracking and stacking, EQ mode with max. exposures of 60 s (tele) and 90 s (wide); in alt-az mode exposures up to 15 s
• panoramas: giga-pixel mode and cloud-based "Pano Weave" stitching with automatic shot count planning
• Birding and video: Double-tap the wide-angle preview to zoom in and focus on the telephoto lens; auto-capture mode recognizes, tracks, and captures your subject; up to 60 fps at 2K and 50 Mbps bitrate for smooth footage
• image resolutions: telephoto 3840 × 2160, video 4K@30 fps or 1080p@60 fps; wide-angle photo 1920 × 1080, video 1080p@30 fps
• connectivity and operation: NFC One-Touch (fast pairing), DWARFLAB application for Android and iOS, background/offline operation after minimizing the application, multilingual interface
• power supply and memory: built-in 10000 mAh battery with USB-C charging; 128 GB of built-in eMMC memory
• resistance and mobility: IP54 (dust, moisture, dew), compact dimensions and weight of 1.3 kg, facilitating field work
• compared to DWARF 2: larger telephoto aperture (35 mm vs 24 mm) and longer focal length (150 mm vs 100 mm), new IMX678 sensor instead of IMX415, longer exposures in EQ mode, higher NPU power (5 TOPS vs 2 TOPS), larger battery (10000 mAh vs 5600 mAh), 128 GB eMMC built-in memory, more modes also available for the wide-angle camera and NFC, Astro Mosaic and wide-angle astrophotography

Filters and modes

• VIS filter (telephoto): transmission range approx. 430–650 nm, natural colors in daylight photography
• Astro filter (telephoto): extended band around 430–690 nm, higher sensitivity at night and in low light conditions
• Dual-Band filter (telephoto): selective O III, H-β and H-α (approx. 486–656 nm) for nebulae and LP reduction
• operating modes (telephoto and wide): Photo, Video, Astro, Pano, Burst, Timelapse
• recording formats: FITS, TIFF, JPEG, PNG (depending on the mode)

Set components

• DWARF 3 Smart Telescope

• cleaning cloth

Technical parameters

• optics (tele): diameter 35 mm, focal length 150 mm, equivalent to 737 mm, multi-element ED system in periscopic design
• optics (wide): diameter 3.4 mm, focal length 6.7 mm, equivalent to 45 mm
• sensor (tele track): Sony IMX678 STARVIS 2, pixel 2 µm
• built-in filters (tele): VIS / Astro / Dual-Band; (wide): Astro
• Max. exposure times in astro mode: 60 sec (tele), 90 sec (wide) in EQ mode; standard 15 sec in alt-az mode
• photo resolutions: telephoto 3840 × 2160; wide 1920 × 1080
• video resolutions: tele up to 4K@30 fps or 1080p@60 fps; wide 1080p@30 fps; birding up to 60 fps at 2K, bitrate 50 Mb/s

• Connectivity and control: NFC One-Touch, DWARFLAB application (Android / iOS), background/offline operation, multilingual interface
• montage: alt-az with field rotation correction; EQ mode when set to polar (longer exposures)
• power supply: built-in 10000 mAh battery, USB-C charging (external power supply possible)
• memory: 128 GB built-in eMMC memory
• resistance: IP54 (resistance to dust and moisture; declared resistance to dew)
• mounting: 1/4" tripod thread; tripod not included in the set
• operating conditions: recommended temperature range approx. –10°C to 45°C (operation), according to the manufacturer's data
• dimensions and weight: 222 × 142 × 65 mm; 1.3 kg

EXPERT OPINION

DWARF 3 is a compact digital telescope that combines astrophotography, daytime photography and nature observation functions in one integrated design. In practice, it is a device that is clearly more versatile than simpler models of this type - offering greater flexibility of use, a broader feature set and higher image resolution compared to entry-level designs, while still maintaining very good mobility.

The most important feature of the DWARF 3 is its dual-camera design. The combination of a telephoto path and a wide-angle camera translates not only into more convenient framing, but also into a significantly broader range of applications - from astrophotography to daytime imaging and video. The device can be used for deep-sky imaging, panoramas, landscape shots, video recording and simpler field applications such as birding.

In astrophotography, the DWARF 3 presents a mature implementation of the smart telescope concept. Automatic object acquisition, tracking, stacking and EQ mode allow the user to achieve good results without building a classic astronomical setup. Particularly important here is the combination of the Sony IMX678 STARVIS 2 sensor, filters built into the telephoto path, and relatively long exposures (up to 60 s in EQ mode for the tele path). In practice, this translates into a device that genuinely allows users to enter astrophotography in a simpler and less technical way than traditional systems.

Compared to simpler designs, the DWARF 3 also stands out for its greater versatility outside astronomy. The telephoto lens allows for a more detailed image of distant objects than a typical wide-angle camera, while the wide path makes framing and quick target acquisition easier. This means the device makes sense not only as an “astro gadget”, but also as a mobile imaging system for mixed applications.

Another strong point of this model is the level of refinement of its software functions. The app is not limited to simple shutter release, but serves as an advanced control center - from object selection, calibration and tracking to basic processing and management of saved material. From the perspective of a beginner, this is one of the key strengths of the entire system.

Its limitations, however, remain typical for this class of device. The DWARF 3 does not replace a classic astronomical telescope or an advanced astrophotography setup with a larger aperture. Despite its high functionality, it still works with a small 35 mm optic, which naturally limits the amount of collected light and the scale of achievable results compared to larger instruments. In practice, this means that the greatest strength of this model is not absolute optical performance, but rather the balance between capability, mobility and ease of use.

It is also worth remembering that the device is strongly dependent on operation through a mobile app and wireless communication. In everyday use, this control model is convenient, but it also means that working comfort depends partly on the stability of the wireless connection to the smartphone and on the app ecosystem itself.

In summary, the DWARF 3 is one of the more refined digital telescopes in its class - especially for users who want to combine astrophotography with field imaging and mobile use. It is not a device for those expecting the performance of a large telescope, but as an integrated, versatile system for fast night-sky imaging and daytime applications, it performs very convincingly.
