Microtome is an indispensable device that allows to make thin and even sections of biological objects for the preparation of microscopic specimens. Manual microtome is an inexpensive alternative to expensive and complicated laboratory microtomes. Presented microtome thanks to the built-in jaw clamp allows you to prepare sections of material not only embedded in paraffin, but also from objects placed in the auxiliary medium (styrofoam, black elderberry root, carrot root, etc.) or for large objects also by yourself. Mikrotom is equipped with a micrometer scale. The minimum possible thickness to set is 10 um. The obtained minimum thickness of scraps depends on the type of object being prepared and the blade being used. The minimum thickness should be chosen experimentally, however, for fresh plant tissues it is not a problem to obtain a thickness of 50 ?m. One turn of the knob gives a pitch of 0.5 mm. Another advantage of the microtome is the pull spring (not found in other devices of this type), thanks to which the preparation is not inadvertently pulled off by the blade when cutting - the obtained cross-sections are even and the cutting process is both simple and convenient . An additional piece of equipment is a paper knife that can be used as a cutting blade. It is recommended to try other blades: a new razor blade or razor.
