Celestron Origin marks a new era in amateur astronomy by combining stargazing and astrophotography into a single, user-friendly experience. This intelligent home observatory simplifies the complexity of traditional telescopes, turning your backyard into an effortless gateway to the cosmos. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, Origin captures the beauty of deep-sky objects and brings them to life on your smartphone or tablet.
Every element of the Origin system has been engineered with decades of Celestron expertise — from the proprietary optical design to the intuitive companion app. The result is a revolutionary system that builds upon Celestron’s legacy and makes astronomy more accessible, exciting and enjoyable than ever before.
At the heart of Celestron Origin lies the patented Rowe–Ackermann Schmidt Astrograph (RASA) — a breakthrough in optical engineering. In this design, the camera sensor is placed at the front of the tube, creating an ultra-fast f/2.2 system with a wide field of view and sharpness maintained all the way to the edge. Since its introduction in 2014, RASA has become a preferred tool for professional astronomers and research institutions. For Origin, Celestron developed a new 6-inch RASA offering performance comparable to larger instruments.
To fully leverage the RASA optics, Celestron chose the Sony IMX178 color CMOS sensor. It offers a resolution of 3096 × 2080 pixels with a 2.4 μm pixel size, high full-well capacity (15 000 e⁻), low read noise (1.4 e⁻) and a 14-stop dynamic range at gain 0.
The IMX178 is a back-illuminated sensor of the latest generation, providing higher sensitivity and lower noise, which significantly enhances image quality and quantum efficiency.
Celestron Origin revolutionizes astrophotography with built-in AI algorithms that automatically align and process every frame in real time, producing detailed, colorful and high-contrast images.
Setup is remarkably simple thanks to StarSense technology, which automates the initialization process. Place the telescope outside, power it on and connect the app — Origin will scan the night sky and complete its alignment in under two minutes.
Developed with Simulation Curriculum (creators of SkySafari™), the Celestron Origin app features an intuitive planetarium-style interface, including compass mode and the “Best Tonight” list tailored to your location and time.
Once a target is selected, Origin centers it precisely and begins capturing 10-second exposures. The image becomes more detailed as frames accumulate. The telescope automatically tracks the sky and controls the anti-dew system, ensuring crisp, clear images even during long observing sessions.
