Astronomik ProPlanet 642 BP Clip-Filter EOS M (Astronomik, SKU: 10204098 / 8h00s9) is a versatile infrared bandpass filter designed for daylight IR photography, high-resolution lunar and planetary imaging, and H-alpha deep-sky astrophotography. It opens a 200 nm wide transmission window from 642 nm to 842 nm while blocking longer IR wavelengths.

Unlike the ProPlanet 742 and ProPlanet 807 filters, the 642 BP blocks the deeper infrared range, providing a more controlled transmission profile. “BP” stands for bandpass.

Three filters in one

1) Daylight IR photography
• high contrast with excellent color differentiation
• clear Wood effect rendering
• no hot spots from long-wave IR
• short exposure times
• ideal for IR video recording

2) High-resolution lunar and planetary imaging
• effective reduction of atmospheric seeing
• enhanced contrast in the red spectrum
• no ghosting and excellent sharpness due to long-wave IR blocking
• short exposure times

3) H-alpha deep-sky astrophotography
• nearly 100% transmission at the H-alpha line (656 nm)
• approximately 40 nm effective bandwidth with astro-modified DSLRs
• impressive contrast under light-polluted skies or moonlight
• affordable entry into H-alpha imaging
• easier focusing using LiveView

Autoguiding application

Installing the filter in front of your autoguider camera significantly improves guiding performance by reducing image motion caused by atmospheric turbulence.

Difference between Standard and XT Clip filters

XT versions use an ultra-thin substrate of 0.3 mm or 0.5 mm, minimizing optical aberrations in wide-angle lenses. Standard Clip-Filters may cause star elongation in the extreme corners with very short focal lengths.

Technical specifications

• transmission: >95% between 642–840 nm
• blocking range: 350–630 nm
• glass thickness: 1 mm
• finely polished optical glass free of streaks and stress
• Astronomik MFR coating
• resistant to humidity and aging effects
• parfocal with other Astronomik filters
• diffraction-limited design
• supplied in a durable protective filter box

Each filter undergoes strict quality control before shipment. High sharpness, strong contrast, and absence of halos or reflections are ensured, even with bright objects in the field of view.
