Astronomik CLS Clip-Filter EOS XL (Astronomik, SKU: 10202082 / 8h00lc) is designed for imaging nebulae, galaxies and star clusters with photographic lenses. It fully blocks emission lines from high- and low-pressure sodium (Na) and mercury (Hg) lamps as well as natural airglow, while transmitting most visible light and nebular emissions.

This significantly enhances the contrast between deep-sky objects and the night sky background, making the filter ideal for astrophotography under light-polluted skies. Its wide transmission range ensures that stars are only minimally dimmed, while unwanted artificial light is effectively suppressed.

Additional applications

• 1.25" and 2" versions can also be used for visual observation from light-polluted locations

Alternatives

• Astronomik CLS CCD – required for cameras without a built-in IR blocking filter
• Astronomik UHC – better suited for emission nebula imaging under heavy light pollution
• Astronomik UHC-E – recommended for emission nebulae and comet photography under moderate light pollution

Suitability

• CMOS and CCD: good, requires additional IR-block filter
• DSLR (original): good, shifted color balance but enhanced contrast
• DSLR (astro-modified): very good, nearly perfect color balance
• DSLR (MC-modified): good, requires additional IR-block filter

Technical specifications

• 92% transmission at 486 nm (H-beta)
• 92% transmission at 496 nm (OIII)
• 92% transmission at 501 nm (OIII)
• 97% transmission at 656 nm (H-alpha)
• transmission range: 450–540 nm and above 650 nm
• glass thickness: 1 mm (except Astronomik OWB Type 3 and XT filters)
• finely polished optical glass free of stress and inclusions
• extremely scratch-resistant coating
• fully resistant to humidity and aging
• Astronomik MFR coating for excellent out-of-band suppression
• parfocal with other Astronomik filters
• diffraction-limited design
• optimized transmission ranges
• supplied in a durable, high-quality filter box

Due to precise substrate manufacturing, all Astronomik filters are parfocal with wedge errors far below common tolerances. They are diffraction-limited and ensure that the optical performance of your telescope remains uncompromised. Each filter undergoes strict quality control before shipment.
