Astronomik SII 6 nm CCD Clip-Filter EOS APS-C (SKU: 10201096 / 8h00np) is a narrowband filter designed for imaging nebulae emitting light in the sulphur SII lines. It significantly increases contrast between objects emitting at 671.7 nm and 673 nm and the sky background, both under light-polluted skies and at dark observing sites. This clip-in version is designed for Canon EOS cameras with APS-C sensors.

The filter selectively transmits the SII emission lines (671.7 nm and 673 nm) while effectively blocking unwanted light at other wavelengths from UV to IR. It completely suppresses emission lines from sodium (Na) and mercury (Hg) lamps, all natural airglow lines, and most interfering moonlight, helping to significantly reduce the effects of light pollution.

The 6 nm bandwidth provides very high spectral selectivity and is particularly useful when imaging faint objects in star-rich regions of the Milky Way, as it typically reduces the number of stars recorded in the image. It is also suitable for cameras with very low dark current or for observations from locations with extreme light pollution.

Astronomik narrowband filters enable high-contrast astrophotography even under difficult observing conditions. Combined with H-alpha and OIII filters, the SII filter allows creation of images in the HSO (H-alpha, SII, OIII) palette commonly used in emission nebula imaging.

Technical specifications

• emission lines: 671.7 nm and 673 nm
• full width at half maximum (FWHM): 6 nm
• guaranteed transmission: > 90% at both SII lines
• typical transmission: 93% at both SII lines
• blocking range: UV–IR
• glass thickness: 1 mm
• glass: finely polished optical glass, free of striae, internal stress and bubbles
• coating: Astronomik MFR
• recommended f-ratio range: f/4–f/∞ (for MFR coating)
• optical quality: diffraction-limited design
• parfocality: parfocal with other Astronomik filters

Astronomik SII 6 nm allows detailed imaging of nebular structures in sulphur emission lines, combining high signal transmission with strong suppression of background light under light-polluted skies.
