Astronomik H-alpha 6nm CCD Clip-Filter Sony alpha 7 (SKU: 10205091 / 8h00xh) is a narrowband emission filter designed for imaging hydrogen nebulae with Sony alpha 7 cameras. It is optimized to record light emitted at the H-alpha 656 nm line and to significantly increase contrast between the object and the sky background. The filter performs well both under dark skies and in heavily light-polluted observing locations.

With its 6 nm bandwidth, the filter effectively blocks unwanted light at other wavelengths, from ultraviolet to infrared. It suppresses emission lines from sodium and mercury vapor lamps, natural airglow and a large portion of moonlight, allowing detailed and high-contrast imaging even under full Moon conditions. When imaging faint objects in dense Milky Way star fields, the 6 nm version typically reduces the number of stars recorded in the image, helping faint nebular structures stand out more clearly.

The 6 nm version is especially useful for imaging from extremely light-polluted locations and when using cameras with very low dark current. This filter must not be used for solar observation.

Key features

• narrowband H-alpha filter for imaging hydrogen nebulae
• transmission band centered on the H-alpha 656 nm line
• 6 nm bandwidth
• significantly increases contrast between the object and the sky background
• blocks sodium and mercury emission lines, natural airglow and a large portion of moonlight
• suppresses unwanted light from UV to IR
• especially useful under strong light pollution and during full Moon imaging
• helps reduce the number of recorded stars when imaging faint objects in rich Milky Way fields
• suitable for optical systems from f/4 to f/∞ without significant performance loss
• features Astronomik MFR coating for high contrast, minimal stray light and no halos

Included items

• Astronomik H-alpha 6nm CCD Clip-Filter Sony alpha 7
• durable filter storage box

Technical specifications

• type: H-alpha narrowband filter
• compatibility: Sony alpha 7
• central wavelength: 656 nm
• guaranteed transmission at the H-alpha line: over 90%
• typical transmission at the H-alpha line: 93%
• glass thickness: 1 mm
• material: finely polished optical glass, free of streaks, internal stress and bubbles
• coating: Astronomik MFR
• coating durability: highly scratch-resistant and resistant to humidity and aging effects
• optical characteristics: parfocal, diffraction-limited

This is a specialized emission-line imaging filter that helps reveal hydrogen nebula structure with strong contrast, making it a very effective tool for astrophotography in demanding observing conditions.
