Astronomik H-alpha 6nm CCD 50 mm Filter (SKU: 10212565 / 8h00f7) is a narrowband emission filter designed for imaging hydrogen nebulae. It records light emitted at the H-alpha 656 nm line and significantly increases contrast between the object and the sky background. The 50 mm filter format is intended for use in filter wheels and astrophotography systems that support this diameter.
With its 6 nm bandwidth, the filter effectively blocks unwanted light at other wavelengths from ultraviolet to infrared. It suppresses emission lines from sodium and mercury vapor lamps, natural airglow and a large portion of moonlight, allowing high-contrast imaging both under dark skies and in heavily light-polluted locations. When imaging faint objects in dense Milky Way star fields, the 6 nm version helps reduce the number of recorded stars and makes faint nebular structures more visible.
The 6 nm version is particularly recommended for imaging from extremely light-polluted sites and when using cameras with very low dark current. This filter must not be used for solar observation.
