Astronomik OIII 12nm CCD SC Rear Cell Filter (2" / 24TPI) (SKU: 10215050 / 8h00bm) is a narrowband emission filter designed for imaging nebulae that emit light in the oxygen [OIII] lines. It records radiation at wavelengths of 496 nm and 501 nm, significantly increasing contrast between the object and the sky background. The SC Rear Cell version is designed for installation in the rear thread of Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes (2" / 24TPI).

With its 12 nm bandwidth, the filter effectively blocks unwanted light at other wavelengths from ultraviolet to infrared. It suppresses emission lines from sodium and mercury vapor lamps, natural airglow and a large portion of moonlight, allowing high-contrast imaging both under dark skies and in heavily light-polluted environments.

The OIII filter allows imaging of fine structures in planetary nebulae, star-forming regions and supernova remnants. Combined with H-alpha and SII filters it enables the creation of emission-line images in the HSO palette.

Key features

• narrowband OIII filter for emission nebula imaging
• transmission band covering the [OIII] lines at 496 nm and 501 nm
• 12 nm bandwidth
• mounting for Schmidt-Cassegrain rear cell (2" / 24TPI)
• significantly increases contrast between the object and the sky background
• blocks sodium and mercury emission lines, natural airglow and a large portion of moonlight
• suppresses unwanted light from UV to IR
• Astronomik MFR coating ensures high contrast and minimal stray light

Technical specifications

• type: OIII narrowband filter
• transmission lines: 496 nm and 501 nm
• bandwidth: 12 nm
• mounting: SC Rear Cell (2" / 24TPI)
• guaranteed transmission at the OIII line (501 nm): over 90%
• typical transmission at the OIII line: 95%
• glass thickness: 1 mm
• material: finely polished optical glass free of streaks, internal stress and bubbles
• coating: Astronomik MFR
• recommended focal ratio range: f/3 – f/∞
• coating durability: highly resistant to scratches, humidity and aging
• optical characteristics: parfocal, diffraction-limited

This filter enables astrophotographers to capture oxygen-emission nebula structures with excellent contrast even under demanding observing conditions.
