The Astronomik OIII 6nm CCD 36mm filter (SKU: 10215636 / 8h00n4) is a narrowband emission filter designed for imaging nebulae that emit light in the oxygen [OIII] lines. The filter transmits radiation at wavelengths of 496 nm and 501 nm, significantly increasing contrast between the astronomical object and the sky background.

The filter effectively blocks light pollution from sodium and mercury vapor lamps, natural airglow and a large portion of moonlight. This allows high-contrast imaging of emission nebulae even under strongly light-polluted skies.

The narrow 6 nm bandwidth eliminates unwanted light at other wavelengths from ultraviolet to infrared, allowing only the selected oxygen emission lines to pass. The filter is particularly recommended for imaging faint objects in dense regions of the Milky Way and from sites with extreme light pollution.

The OIII filter is an important element of a narrowband astrophotography setup. Combined with H-alpha and SII filters it enables imaging in the popular HSO palette (H-alpha, SII, OIII), producing nebula images similar to those captured by the Hubble Space Telescope.

Key features

• narrowband OIII filter for emission nebula imaging
• transmission band covering the [OIII] lines at 496 nm and 501 nm
• bandwidth: 6 nm
• filter diameter: 36 mm
• unmounted filter designed for filter wheels
• effective suppression of light pollution
• very high contrast imaging of nebular structures
• blocking of unwanted light from UV to IR
• Astronomik MFR coating for high transmission and minimal stray light

Included items

• Astronomik OIII 6nm CCD 36 mm filter
• durable protective filter box

Technical specifications

• type: OIII narrowband filter
• emission lines: 496 nm and 501 nm
• bandwidth (FWHM): 6 nm
• guaranteed transmission at 501 nm line: over 88%
• typical transmission at 501 nm line: 92%
• filter diameter: 36 mm
• type: unmounted
• glass thickness: 1 mm
• material: finely polished optical glass free of streaks, internal stress and bubbles
• coating: Astronomik MFR
• focal ratio range: f/4 – f/∞
• coating durability: highly resistant to scratches, humidity and aging
• optical characteristics: parfocal, diffraction-limited design

The Astronomik OIII 6nm CCD 36mm filter enables astrophotographers to capture high-contrast oxygen emission nebulae even under heavy light pollution while maintaining sharp stars and eliminating reflections or halos.
