Svbony UV / IR cut 1.25" is a professional astrophotographic filter that blocks ultraviolet and infrared radiation, designed for use with color CCD, CMOS and DSLR cameras.

The use of this filter allows for a significant improvement in the contrast and sharpness of objects photographed with color cameras in the visible radiation range. Unlike the human eye, these types of devices are sensitive to infrared, the component of which causes a noticeable deterioration in image quality (For more information, see the expert note at the bottom of the page).

Since the transmission range of the Svbony UV / IR cut 1.25" filter covers the Hα band (656.3 nm), it can also be used in solar photography as protection of the much more expensive Hα filter against thermal damage.

Attention! Visual observations of the Sun should always be made through a dedicated solar filter or Herschel wedge.

The most important features of the Svbony UV / IR cut 1.25 "filter

• filter made on a high-quality glass substrate
• the possibility of using it as protection for other filters
• compatible with color cameras equipped with CMOS and CCD matrices

Expert note

The filter blocking infrared and ultraviolet (IR/UV) is commonly considered a must-have piece of equipment for every astrophotography lover working with a refractor, as well as with reflecting telescopes, equipped with dedicated corrective lenses, e.g. coma reducers. Many posts on various astronomy forums suggest the need to use such a filter in the absence of a narrow or multiband filter.

The use of this type of filter prevents the occurrence of the phenomenon referred to as "star bloating". It is caused by the high probability of chromatic aberrations for wavelengths close to the lower and upper limits of the visible light range (near infrared and UV-A). The effect of such a filter is visible in the attached photograph taken with the use of an apochromatic refractor (author: Carl Björk, ZWO ASI group, Facebook).

In addition to improving the quality of the image obtained, the IR/UV filter covers the camera sensor or the matrix with the mirror in the case of digital SLR cameras. Thanks to this, these delicate elements are not exposed to dirt, which makes maintenance and cleaning of the camera or SLR easy and quick. Users of reflecting telescopes, where the light-sensitive element is directly exposed to external factors, should pay special attention to this aspect of using the IR/UV filter.

Clear skies and successful observations!
