The new models of EDG VR spotting scopes are the world's first models of spotting scopes equipped with an optical vibration reduction (VR) system. The vibration reduction algorithm, based on the advanced mechanism used in NIKKOR VR lenses, has been optimized for this series of scopes and effectively implemented in it.
The VR Shake Reduction mechanism precisely compensates for external vibrations caused by wind and operations such as focusing, panning and tilting. This makes composition easier by reducing jitter to about 1/8 of the image blur caused by jitter during normal viewing. It also improves the accuracy of manual focusing during very close-up digiscoping. Shake Reduction allows for twice the exposure time and is particularly effective when digiscoping in adverse conditions such as wind.
The EDG VR spotting scopes also use Nikon's proven ED (extra-low dispersion) glass, which ensures natural color reproduction and excellent image sharpness. In addition, straight scope models offer a prism coated with a multi-layer, reflective dielectric coating, which provides a higher reflectivity and better contrast than ever before.
• The world's first spotting scopes equipped with Nikon's optical vibration reduction (VR) mechanism. • This reduces the jitter to about 1/8 during observation, which in digiscoping is equivalent to using twice the shutter speed. • Easy-to-use Shake Reduction. Pressing the VR button once after turning the Shake Reduction lock knob activates the function. • The VR Shake Reduction mechanism automatically turns off about 30 minutes after it is turned on (Auto Power Off Function). • Uses readily available AA batteries. • Extra-low dispersion ED glass compensates for chromatic aberrations for greater clarity and brightness. • Roof prism covered with a coating that corrects phase shifts of light waves guarantees high resolution. • Roof prism with multi-layer reflective dielectric coating for increased image brightness (straight scope models only). • For a brighter image, all lenses and prisms are multi-coated. • Waterproof (up to 2 m for 10 minutes) and anti-fog inside construction thanks to nitrogen filling (connections between the body and the eyepiece and between the body and the battery compartment are waterproof). • Stylish design. • Three tripod screw holes for rigid mounting and optimal balance. • Seven eyepieces exclusively for EDG spotting scopes (available as an option). • Built-in sliding hood protects the lens. • optical construction: achromatic ED lens • Lens diameter: 85 mm • prism construction: straight / BaK-4, with dielectric coatings • minimum focusing distance: 5 mm • weight (tube only): approx. 2400 g (without batteries) • coatings, optics: full multi-coating, phase correction coating, ED lens • waterproof: yes, nitrogen filled; waterproof to a depth of 2 m under water for 10 min • fixing the adapter to a tripod: non-rotating type, 3 screw holes for balancing the tube with or without a digiscoping system • type of eyepiece mount: bayonet
