The Celestron 9x50 RA ILL is a right-angle, correct-image (RACI) optical finderscope with a 90° viewing angle, delivering a terrestrial, correctly oriented image (upright and left-to-right correct). Its bright 50 mm optics provide 9x magnification with a 5° apparent field of view, while the etched, double crosshair reticle is illuminated by a red LED. The finder comes with a sturdy dual-ring bracket and integrated dovetail base compatible with Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain and EdgeHD optical tubes (including NexStar SCT), making it an excellent upgrade over the standard StarPointer finder.
An optical 9x finder is often more effective under light-polluted skies, where bright artificial lights can make red-dot finders difficult to use. The correct-image view makes it easier to locate and track objects as they drift across the sky, and the eyepiece module can be rotated to either side so you can choose the most comfortable viewing position, especially when pointing the telescope near the zenith.
To replace the stock finder, simply remove the StarPointer mounting base and install the supplied dovetail bracket with the 9x50 RA ILL finderscope. Alignment with the main telescope is adjusted using the large knurled thumbscrews on the rings.
