Cassegrain telescope - considered extinct, but comes back to the game again thanks to the Taiwanese GSO factory. We hope that it will return permanently, as this construction offers many unique features and we are sure that it is very worth paying attention to.

• cooler than Schmidt-Cassegrain and Maksutow-Cassegrain (similar to RC Newtons)
• there is even no residual chromatic aberration, because it is a telescope that works only on reflection, not on light diffraction (similar to RC and Newton telescopes)
• has a longer focal length than a typical RC or Newtonian, and is parametrically similar to the Maksutov telescope
• very compact structure (similar to RC and Mak)
• the absence of a lens system allows the Cassegrain telescope to be used in infrared photography
• long focal length simplifies the collimation procedure, which is a drawback of RC telescopes, especially if you plan to use them as an exit telescope.

In general, the Cassegrain system is - what you can read about - the main mirror with the figure of a rotational paraboloid and a secondary mirror that is a segment of a rotational hyperboloid. Their typical drawback is the difficulty in making these surfaces - but this is what the GSO factory did. Others are a long focal length and thus a not too large field of view - but this is often an advantage, as it eliminates flaws at the edges of the field, and at the same time gives a high reproduction scale both in photography and in observations.

Purpose : visual observations, planetary astrophotography, compact DS astrophotography with highly sensitive cameras, infrared and ultraviolet photography.
