The RedBeam red LED flashlight is a useful tool for the amateur astronomer. It has four LEDs of different brightness and the function of turning the light on and off by waving your hand in front of the flashlight. Press the power button to switch between brightness modes. There are four brightness modes (5%-10%-50%-100%) and pressing the button again after reaching 100% mode will turn off the light. To use the motion sensor setting, hold the power button for about 2 seconds. You will see a faint red light under the surface of the power button, indicating that the flashlight has activated motion sensor mode. Wave your hand about 4 inches from the front of the flashlight to turn the light on/off. In motion sensor mode, only 100% brightness mode is used. Press the power button once to turn off the light and motion sensor mode. The motion sensor is focused at a distance of about 10 centimeters, so movement at a greater distance will not constantly turn the light on and off. The Redbeam elastic strap is adjustable to fit most head sizes. Slide the strap through the handles to find a circumference that is comfortable on your head. The light itself can be tilted down by gripping the main body of the light and rotating it along the hinge on the back of the light. RedBeam requires three AAA batteries. Lithium batteries typically last longer than alkaline batteries, but whichever battery you choose will provide relatively long battery life due to the low current consumption of the LED. Gently pry the battery cover latch with your fingernail while sliding the battery cover back to open the battery compartment. Be careful with the + and - markings on the compartment wall to ensure that the batteries are installed in the correct orientation. Close the cover and turn on the light.
