The Right Ascension (RA) motor drive can be used with any telescope on an AstroMaster or PowerSeeker equatorial mount, or any telescope with a Celestron CG-2 or CG-3 mount. Installing the RA motor drive is simple. The motor compensates for the Earth's rotation so that the equatorial mount tracks the motion of the stars. The mount's rotation axis must be aligned with the celestial pole. Once the RA motor drive is engaged, the user only needs to occasionally adjust the Declination (Dec) to keep an object in the eyepiece for an extended period of time.
The Celestron motor drive is powered by a 9V battery. It can be used in the Northern or Southern hemisphere. To change hemispheres, simply flip the North/South (N/S) switch on the front of the motor drive. Changing the motor speed is also easy. Using the "Speed Rate Regulator" knob, you can slow down or speed up the motor. Since objects in the Solar System, such as the Sun and Moon, move across the sky at a different speed than the stars, this gives you the option of adjusting the motor speed to also observe the Sun or Moon.
Powered by one 9V battery (6LR61), it works up to 40 hours without changing the power source. The set includes a battery and instructions for mounting on the telescope head. 2 years
