AR.Drone 2.0 is the latest version of the high-tech quadricopter from the French company Parrot, controlled via Wi-Fi using a smartphone or tablet. AR.Drone is an intuitive, easy-to-use RC model with incredible possibilities.

Compared to version 1.0, version 2.0 has an HD camera, the ability to record video and take photos, an additional Absolute Control pilot mode, higher stability and greater control when flying at high altitudes.

HD camera

Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 is equipped with a front camera with HD 1280x720 resolution, from which the image can be transmitted in real time to the screen of the control device (tablet, smartphone). Thanks to this, we have an incredible flight experience and at the same time we can record flight videos in high resolution.

Additionally, in the lower part of the Drone there is a lower resolution camera to help you land in the right place.

AR.FreeFlight 2.0 - a new pilot platform

AR.Drone 2.0 is controlled using the new, obviously free AR.FreeFlight 2.0 application. It allows you to record and post your own flight videos in HD resolution on the Internet. The "travelling" function allows you to program a specific trajectory (sequence of Drone movements) - after entering the direction of movement (forward, backward, left, right) and the movement time, the Ar.FreeFlight software will do the rest for you.

In addition to controlling the AR.Drone's flight phase, the new AR.FreeFlight 2.0 application - available for free download from the AppStore and Android Market - offers players a new interface and many options.

• FreeFlight: access to the pilot application. The pilot can record the flight, HD videos or take photos and save them to his/her control device. All flight data (altitude, speed, duration and location) can be recorded, viewed by the pilot and shared with the community.
• Guest Space: access to the best videos and practical information about AR.Drone 2.0
• updates: access to free software updates for AR.Drone 2.0.
• AR.Drone Academy: find the best places to fly, watch other pilots' actions on video and share flight parameters with them
• AR.Games: access to applications and games available for AR.Drone
• photos and videos: direct access to your own videos and photos - watch them or upload them to YouTube to share with the AR.Drone community and the world

Since constantly sending high-resolution video sequences via the WIFI network may negatively affect the continuity of communication, it is possible to connect a USB memory stick directly to the Drone and record videos and photos on a pendrive. in order to relieve the transfer via WIFI and later download the recorded material (USB Recording function).

Absolute Flight

As soon as you load the AR.FreeFlight 2.0 piloting application onto your smartphone or tablet with iOS or Android, Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 connects to it via Wi-Fi. Once connected, all on-board instruments will be visible on the screen, which also shows the view from the cockpit. After pressing the start button, all four engines will be started and AR.Drone 2.0 will take off on its own. Piloting is very simple. By placing your thumbs on both sides of the screen, the control buttons will automatically appear where you touch them:

Press and hold the left button and AR.Drone 2.0 will follow the movement of the controller in the pilot's hands: forward, backward or sideways when you tilt your smartphone/tablet in the desired direction. Move your finger over the right button and the quadricopter will ascend, descend, or rotate to the right or left.

Thanks to the new Absolute Control pilot mode patented by Parrot, the player receives a very intuitive control system.

3D magnetometer

Thanks to the 3D magnetometer, AR.Drone 2.0 knows exactly its position and orientation in relation to the smartphone, which is its reference point. The pilot no longer needs to worry about the orientation of the front camera because the quadricopter precisely follows the controller's movements and tilt. Experienced players can choose Relative Flight mode, which is a conventional piloting method. In this mode, the magnetometer is turned off and the remote control controls the orientation of the device itself without additional assistance.

Stabilization at any altitude - ability to perform higher flights

AR.Drone 2.0 contains MEMS - micro electromechanical systems. These are a 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis gyroscope, 3-axis magnetometer and a pressure sensor, which together give Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 exceptional flight stabilization. In addition, 2 ultrasonic sensors analyze the flight ceiling up to 6 meters above. Additionally, the built-in pressure sensor ensures excellent vertical stabilization.

• 4 rotors, specially designed for AR.Drone 2.0, ensure incredible smoothness of flight
• a second camera, placed under the quadricopter and connected to the central stabilization system, which measures the speed of the aircraft using an image comparison system and is useful in selecting a landing site.

Two fuselages, created for two different types of flights

Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 has two specially shaped fuselages. They are made of material used, among others, in the production of car bumpers. The fuselages are very light and resistant, protecting the mechanics and electronics of the Drone. For outdoor flights, a contoured fuselage was designed in three colors (orange-yellow, orange-green, orange-blue), which reduces air resistance and ensures stability and facilitates the operation of AR.Drone 2.0. During indoor flights, the INDOOR HULL fuselage additionally protects the rotor blades and body in the event of hitting an obstacle. LED diodes - green at the front, red at the back - help the pilot properly orient the AR.Drone 2.0 during flight.

Open development platform

To enable the creation of new solutions and applications for Parrot AR.Drone 2.0, as well as to expand compatibility with other operating systems and enable the creation of new games and applications, Parrot makes Apple and Android Software Development available to developers and community members Putty.

After logging in to https://projects.ardrone.org and accepting the license terms, developers have access to the AR.Drone 2.0 source code, as well as studies, documentation, guides and a discussion forum about the directions of product development.

Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 is powered by a Li-ion battery (included). Spare batteries available separately.
