Sky-Watcher BKMN 190 Maksutov-Newton Telescope (SW-3010) is an advanced optical instrument designed for demanding astrophotographers and visual observers. The Maksutov-Newton optical system combines the advantages of a Newtonian reflector with correction provided by a front-mounted meniscus lens. Compared to classical Newtonian designs, this configuration significantly reduces coma, astigmatism and field curvature, delivering high-contrast images with excellent edge sharpness and a flat field.
The BKMN 190 is a compelling alternative to expensive apochromatic refractors. With its 190 mm aperture, it gathers 5.25× more light than an 80 mm refractor, 3.35× more than a 100 mm refractor, and 2.35× more than a 120 mm refractor. The fast focal ratio of f/5.3 allows high-quality imaging with relatively short exposure times. Compared to Schmidt-Newtonians of similar aperture, the Maksutov-Newton design provides sharper and more contrast-rich images.
The optical tube is made of rolled steel and internally coated with matte black paint to suppress stray reflections. The telescope features a precision 2" Crayford focuser with dual-speed micro-adjustment, compatible with both 2" and 1.25" eyepieces. Due to the tube weight, a solid equatorial mount of EQ6 class or stronger is recommended (optical tube assembly only, mount not included).
