The ZWO FF70 APO is a compact apochromatic astrograph with a 70 mm aperture and a 490 mm focal length. The optical tube has been designed as a flat-field quadruplet APO refractor, intended both for astrophotography and visual observation. The optical system consists of four air-spaced elements, including one ED glass element, which helps reduce chromatic aberration and provides a well-corrected image field.
The built-in flat-field correction eliminates the need for a separate field flattener. The telescope offers a 44 mm image circle, allowing it to work with full-frame cameras. Unlike systems using an external field corrector, the FF70 APO does not require one rigidly defined working distance such as 55 mm. After assembling the optical train, focus is achieved within the focuser travel range and the permitted rear connection length.
The FF70 APO is equipped with a 2.4" rack-and-pinion focuser with a 1:10 microfocuser and a 360° rotator, making it easier to frame the object without rotating the entire setup. The retractable dew shield reduces the tube length during transport, while the quick-release tube rings with a carrying handle make telescope installation and removal easier. The tube also includes finder/accessory mounting points and a 230 mm dovetail plate.
