Meteorites of Poland and the World by Kazimierz Mazurek and Eligiusz Szełęg is the first meteorite atlas published on the Polish market. This richly illustrated book presents meteorites as natural extraterrestrial objects originating from space, showing their wide diversity, classification, structure and basic methods for distinguishing them from terrestrial rocks.
A dedicated chapter focuses on meteorites found within the territory of Poland, describing the history of their discoveries as well as their internal structure and mineral composition. The book also covers tektites and impactites, and includes pseudometeorites—objects that resemble meteorites in certain aspects but are not of extraterrestrial origin.
The publication is primarily based on the meteorite collection of Kazimierz Mazurek (KAMAMET), supplemented with rare specimens from other private and museum collections. The atlas includes photographs of 310 meteorites representing 122 types and subtypes from 65 countries across all continents, as well as 12 tektites, impact glasses and impactites from 12 well-known locations.
The atlas provides essential reference knowledge in a clear and structured form. It may be useful not only for amateur enthusiasts but also for professionals involved in fieldwork and research, including geologists, surveyors, archaeologists, farmers, construction workers, as well as collectors and museum professionals building institutional collections or exhibitions.
