The Celestron Origin Mark II is an intelligent home observatory that combines a GoTo telescope, fast astrograph and fully integrated imaging computer in one system. It features a 6" Rowe-Ackermann Schmidt Astrograph (RASA) at f/2.2, the Celestron Origin 678C camera and an onboard computer controlled via the Celestron Origin Powered by SkySafari™ app, delivering real-time, full-color views of galaxies, nebulae and star clusters directly to your phone or tablet.
• all-in-one intelligent home observatory – automatic object finding, tracking and deep-sky imaging
• 6" Rowe-Ackermann Schmidt Astrograph (RASA) at f/2.2 – very short exposures and a wide field of view
• integrated Celestron Origin 678C camera with Sony Starvis 2 sensor (approx. 8.3–8.4 MP) and 2.0 µm pixels
• automatic, non-generative AI image processing – real-time stacking and enhancement without inventing or colorizing data
• automated initialization with StarSense – autofocus and sky alignment completed in under two minutes
• Celestron Origin Powered by SkySafari™ app (iOS / Android) with planetarium view and Tonight’s Best list
• multi-user live viewing – several devices can connect simultaneously; live feed can be cast to a smart TV
• built-in filter drawer for 1.25" and 2" filters – ideal for narrowband and light pollution filters
• raw data and final stack export – download via USB or WiFi for advanced manual processing
• scheduled observations – fully automated overnight imaging sessions
• equatorial wedge mode (with optional NexStar Evolution wedge and StarSense Autoguider) – longer exposures without field rotation
• also suitable for terrestrial use – daytime landscapes and near night-vision performance in low light
• integrated LiFePO4 battery (97.9 Wh) – approx. 6 hours runtime with 12 V DC external power support
At the heart of Origin Mark II is a 6" Rowe-Ackermann Schmidt Astrograph (RASA), an ultra-fast f/2.2 astrographic system. The camera sensor is mounted at the front of the optical tube, providing a wide field of view with excellent sharpness across the frame. Compared to typical Newtonian reflectors or refractors with slower focal ratios, RASA delivers significantly more photons in a shorter time, making it possible to capture fine deep-sky details with short exposures of around 10–15 seconds.
The optical train uses StarBright XLT coatings and a 63 mm central obstruction (41% of the aperture) to maintain high transmission and uniform field illumination. This makes Origin Mark II suitable both for light-polluted suburban backyards with filters installed and dark-sky sites without additional filtration.
The integrated Celestron Origin 678C camera is built around the Sony IMX678 Starvis 2 color CMOS sensor with back-illuminated architecture. Its 2.0 µm pixels provide high resolution over a field of view of approximately 1.32° × 0.75°. Combined with the fast f/2.2 RASA optics, the camera reveals subtle spiral structure in galaxies and faint filaments in emission nebulae.
As Origin Mark II acquires data, onboard algorithms automatically align, stack and enhance each frame in real time. The AI processing in the app is non-generative: it does not add or invent image data, but optimizes the signal captured by the sensor using techniques similar to those applied by experienced astroimagers. Users can rely on automatic settings or adjust brightness, contrast, color saturation and Stretch Strength manually before saving or exporting images.
Control is handled via the Celestron Origin Powered by SkySafari™ app for iOS and Android. The planetarium interface allows intuitive object selection directly from the sky map or from the Tonight’s Best list, generated based on your location and observing time. Built-in StarSense technology automatically scans the sky, matches star patterns to its internal database and completes alignment without manual centering.
Once a target is selected, Origin Mark II centers it in the field of view and starts a series of exposures (typically 10 seconds each), while the dew prevention system keeps the optics clear. In the app, you can monitor stacking in real time, fine-tune image parameters and save your results to the mobile device. Multiple users can connect simultaneously, and the live view can be mirrored to a TV for group observing.

• never look directly at the Sun with the naked eye or through the telescope without a proper solar filter
• never use the telescope to project an image of the Sun onto any surface – internal heat build-up can damage the optics and accessories
• always ensure the telescope is operated by an adult familiar with safe procedures, especially when children are present
