The ZWO ASI 4400 MC-P is a full-frame, cooled color astronomy camera equipped with a back-illuminated CMOS sensor measuring 36×24 mm, offering 44 megapixels of resolution with 4.4µm pixels. Positioned between the ASI2400MC Pro and ASI6200MC Pro, it provides an ideal balance of resolution, field of view and performance, making it highly versatile for deep-sky astrophotography.
Each pixel features a full-well capacity of 74,600 e⁻, while the 14-bit ADC delivers more than 13 stops of dynamic range. The dual-stage TEC cooling system lowers the sensor temperature by approximately 30–35°C below ambient, significantly reducing dark current during long exposures. The camera uses HCG (High Conversion Gain) mode from gain 136, includes hardware-level Glow Suppression, a built-in UV-IR cut filter and an integrated anti-dew heater, ensuring clean and stable imaging performance under a wide range of conditions.
• full-frame back-illuminated 36×24 mm CMOS sensor (43.3 mm diagonal) with 44 megapixels
• 4.4µm pixel size and 74,600 e⁻ full-well capacity – excellent tonal depth and tolerance for bright stars
• 14-bit ADC with more than 13 stops of dynamic range – captures both bright highlights and faint structures
• HCG (High Conversion Gain) mode activates at gain ≥136 – dramatically reduces read noise while maintaining full dynamic range
• dual-stage TEC cooling system – sensor temperature reduction by approximately 30–35°C below ambient (tested at 30°C ambient)
• ultra-low dark current and excellent long-exposure performance – cleaner backgrounds and higher signal-to-noise ratio
• hardware-level Glow Suppression – effective control of CMOS sensor glow with proper dark-frame calibration
• peak quantum efficiency (QE peak) of about 80% – high sensitivity across the visible spectrum
• integrated UV-IR cut filter – blocks unwanted UV/IR light, producing sharper stars and more accurate colors
• built-in anti-dew heater (polyimide heater) with ~5 W power consumption, software switchable
• USB 3.0 data interface and 512 MB DDR3 buffer – stable, high-speed data transmission
• front-plate tilt adjustment (push–pull screws) – enables precise correction of sensor tilt for edge-to-edge sharpness
• compact all-metal red housing, weight approx. 700 g – easy integration with a wide range of astrophotography setups
