The USB Control Hub (PegasusAstro, SKU: PEG-UCH) is an industrial-grade active USB 3.1 Gen1 hub designed specifically for astrophotography and operation in harsh environmental conditions. It features six powered USB ports with individual ON/OFF switching, allowing full control of connected equipment without physically unplugging cables.
The hub supports SuperSpeed USB 3.1 Gen1 (5 Gbps) and is fully backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.0 devices (Hi-Speed, Full Speed and Low Speed). Its multi-transaction architecture enables USB 3.x and USB 2.0 controllers to operate in parallel, ensuring that high-speed data transfers are not affected by slower devices.
Each USB port can deliver up to 2.5 A of current. Intelligent current sensors monitor every port individually, protecting connected devices against short circuits and excessive power draw. The hub includes reverse polarity, undervoltage and overvoltage protection.
The USB Control Hub is engineered for an extended industrial temperature range from -40°C to +85°C, eliminating common USB instability issues during cold observing nights. The electronics are housed in a robust blue anodized 6061 aluminum enclosure, designed to withstand electrostatic discharge up to ±5 kV.
The device operates from a 12–14 V DC power source, allowing direct connection to standard astrophotography batteries. Each USB port can be independently controlled via dedicated standalone software, ASCOM (Switch), or the INDI framework. The hub is also fully supported by the Pegasus Astro Unity Platform.
