NYX-88 Harmonic Gear Mount (PegasusAstro, SKU: PEG-NYX88) is a compact strain-wave (harmonic) mount designed for travel-friendly astrophotography and visual observing setups. It uses strain wave drives on both RA and DEC axes, delivering backlash-free operation and high torque even at high payloads. With an approximate 5 kg mount head weight, it is rated for up to 14 kg payload without counterweights, while optional counterweights can be used via an M12 threaded shaft hole at the end of the DEC axis.
The mount body is fully CNC-machined from 6061 aluminium alloy and anodised in black and blue. Pegasus Astro highlights the use of branded internal components, including stepper motors and strain wave gears. For safety, NYX-88 incorporates an electronic RA brake to prevent backsliding when power is off, along with safety limit stops during slewing or tracking. The mount supports both German equatorial and Alt-Az operation, with mode switching available via PC, hand controller or mobile app.
