Player One ARES-C PRO (SKU: POA-ARES-C-PRO) is a cooled one-shot color camera based on the acclaimed Sony IMX533 C sensor (1″ format, 9 Mpx, 3.76 µm pixel). It combines full-frame dynamic range (full well ≈ 50 ke-) with high quantum efficiency (~80%) and a 14-bit ADC. With a two-stage TEC module, the camera cools the sensor 35–40 °C below ambient temperature, minimizing thermal noise even with long exposures of nebulae and galaxies.

Key Features of ARES-C PRO

• Sony IMX533 COLOR sensor (1″, 3008 × 3008 px, pixel 3.76 µm)
• Bayer RGGB color matrix – single-exposure color recording ( one-shot color )
• full well ~50 ke- – high dynamic range of the scene
• 14-bit ADC + HCG mode – read noise 1.1–3.8 e- (depending on gain)
• Max 43 fps in full frame (RAW8), 100+ fps in ROI 1024 × 768
• 256 MB DDR-III buffer – stable streaming without dropped frames
• two-stage TEC cooling – ΔT 35–40 °C, built-in heater to prevent glass condensation
• USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 interface (400 MiB/s) + ST-4 port for autoguiding
• tilt-plate 4P – sensor angle adjustment in 3 axes
• body threads: internal M54 × 0.75 (camera) and external M48 × 0.75 (2″ nosepiece included)
• lightweight composite body (420 g) – less load on the extractor and assembly

Technical specification

• matrix: Sony IMX533 C, CMOS, rolling shutter
• resolution: 3008 × 3008 px (9.05 Mpx)
• pixel size: 3.76 µm
• sensor diagonal: 16.0 mm (1″)
• ADC conversion: 14 bit / 8 bit (RAW)
• full well: 50 ke- (gain 0), 18 ke- (gain 100, HCG)
• Peak QE: ~80% @ 530 nm
• FPS (full frame): 43 fps @ RAW8, 21 fps @ RAW14
• Buffer: 256MB DDR-III
• cooling: 2-stage TEC, ΔT 35–40 °C (at 20 °C ambient)
• TEC current consumption: ≤ 3 A @ 12 V DC (5.5 × 2.1 mm socket)
• electronics power supply: 5 V from USB (≤ 450 mA)
• back-focus: 17.5 mm (without tilt-plate)
• dimensions: Ø 90 mm × 40 mm (without nose)
• weight: 420 g
• systems: Windows 7/10/11 (ASCOM), macOS, Linux (INDI)

The ARES-C PRO is an excellent choice for astrophotographers looking for a compact, cooled color camera for a wide range of objects – from emission nebulae (with dual-band filters) to clusters and galaxies. Fast readout also makes it attractive for color lunar and solar imaging, and the extensive Player One accessory ecosystem enables easy integration with Phoenix filter wheels, FD MAX drawers and the OAG MAX off-axis guider.
