Full Frame 0.8× Focal Reducer for RC – Artesky

This reducer provides full field correction for Ritchey-Chrétien (RC) telescopes while shortening the native focal length to 80%. In practice, you get both focal reduction and corrected illumination over a full-frame sensor.

Conventional focal reducers (for example, the Astro-Physics CCDT67) shorten the focal length but do not correct the image field. The result is distorted star shapes (astigmatism) toward the corners of the frame.

The larger the imaging sensor, the more obvious these aberrations become. The Artesky reducer has been designed specifically for f/8 RC telescopes to eliminate these edge distortions. The result is tighter, more precise star images across the entire frame and easier focusing.

How to attach the reducer to your telescope

There are two ways to install the reducer on an RC focuser:

• slip-fit installation – inserting the reducer directly into the focuser drawtube

• threaded installation – securing the reducer to the focuser using the supplied adapter

Adaptation via internal M68 × 1 thread on the telescope side:
With suitable adapters, the reducer can be connected to any 2.5" (or larger) focuser. The focuser needs to provide a male M68 × 1 thread on the camera side. A working distance of at least 135 mm from this male thread is required.

Adaptation using the included adapter:
The reducer is supplied with an M68 to M78 × 1 adapter with an external (male) thread. This allows you to mount the reducer on focusers with an internal M78 × 1 thread, such as Artesky 3" RC focusers. In this configuration, the required backfocus is reduced to 100 mm.

(The photos show the included M68–M78 × 1 male adapter.)

Backfocus and clearance for accessories:
The working distance from the male M68 × 1 thread on the camera side is 82 mm. This leaves enough space for custom imaging trains and accessories such as off-axis guiders. The external thread itself is not counted toward this backfocus distance, as it is recessed in the adapter.

We offer a wide range of M68 extension rings and adapters.
