Astronomik ProPlanet 742 XT Clip-Filter EOS APS-C (Astronomik, SKU: 10203100 / 8h00kc) is designed for lunar and planetary imaging, especially Mars, using telescopes with apertures of 6" (150 mm) and larger. The filter transmits only infrared (IR) light above 742 nm, significantly reducing the effects of atmospheric seeing compared to the visible spectrum.
The result is substantially sharper images than expected from your equipment and observing location. The filter also effectively darkens the sky background during advanced twilight, enabling imaging of the Moon and planets even in daylight conditions.
Beyond astrophotography, the filter delivers impressive results in nature photography. When used as an EOS clip filter in MC- or Full Spectrum-modified DSLRs, it suppresses the spectral range where chlorophyll appears green and reveals its strong reflectivity in the near-infrared. This produces striking images with white foliage and clouds against a nearly black sky, especially in spring and summer under clear blue skies.
• darkens the sky background at dusk
• enables imaging of young stars in dust clouds and star-forming regions
If seeing conditions are problematic and the telescope aperture is 10" (250 mm) or larger, the Astronomik ProPlanet 807 filter may be the better choice.
• visual observation: not suitable (the human eye is insensitive to this spectral range)
• CMOS and CCD: suitable for specialized IR photography (e.g. chlorophyll, star-forming regions)
• DSLR (original): not suitable
• DSLR (astro-modified): not suitable
• DSLR (MC-modified): very good for daylight IR photography
• webcam and video (planets): very good, effectively reduces seeing effects
XT filters are designed for wide-angle astrophotography. Their extremely thin substrate (0.3 mm or 0.5 mm) significantly reduces star distortion in the image corners.
• more than 96% transmission for wavelengths 742–1100 nm
• blocks wavelengths from 350–730 nm
• glass thickness: 1 mm (except OWB Type 3 and XT filters)
• finely polished optical glass free of stress and inclusions
• extremely durable coating
• fully resistant to humidity and aging
• Astronomik MFR coating
• parfocal with other Astronomik filters
• diffraction-limited design
• optimized transmission ranges
• supplied in a durable, high-quality filter box
All Astronomik filters are parfocal and diffraction-limited, ensuring that your optical system’s resolution and contrast remain unaffected. Each filter undergoes strict quality control before shipment.
