The Meade LX80 is a great multi-purpose mount, suitable for both visual observation and short and long term astrophotography. The LX80 assembly offers three modes of operation: parallactic German, single OTA Alt-AZ and dual OTA Alt-AZ. The mounting list for any of the three modes is simple and quick. A strong, aluminum construction is based on conical bearings, capable of carrying significant loads (18 kg in the mode of one tube, 33 kg in the mode of two optical tubes). In turn, the precision of driving is ensured on the one hand by a worm gear, on the other hand by the SmartDrive (TM) system, which offers, among others, correction of a periodic assembly error. Both mounts of optical tubes are standard Vixen-type dovetails, allowing the attachment of virtually any optical tube.
An additional advantage is the AstronomerInside function, ie a voice discussion of 500 of the most interesting astronomical objects - after selecting an object from the database, it is worth listening to the details of the object being viewed (function in English). The LX80 field tripod stands for stability and durability. The legs are made of stainless steel tubing, 2 inches in diameter. Additionally, at the top of each leg there is a micro-adjustment of the length of each leg, necessary for precise leveling of the assembly.
