NYX-101 Harmonic Gear Mount with factory-installed Saddle Powerbox (PegasusAstro, SKU: PEG-NYX101+PEG-SADDLEPBOX) combines the high-payload NYX-101 strain-wave mount with an integrated power and USB distribution module built into a Vixen / 3" Losmandy saddle. With power, dew control and USB connectivity available right at the mount head, the setup helps reduce cable runs on moving parts and keeps the imaging train cleaner and more organized.
The NYX-101 uses strain wave (harmonic) drives on both RA and DEC for smooth, backlash-free operation with high torque at heavy payloads. The manufacturer states a payload capacity up to 20 kg without counterweights, and up to 30 kg with counterweights. The mount body is CNC-machined from aircraft-grade 6061 aluminium alloy and anodised in black and blue. Safety features include an RA axis power-off brake for an instant safe stop during power interruptions and safety limits during slewing or tracking, including RA safety limit encoders aimed at preventing internal cable snagging or collision with a tripod/pier. NYX-101 supports Equatorial and Alt-Az modes, switchable via PC software or the mobile application.
The factory-installed Saddle Powerbox acts as both a clamp and a power/USB hub. It provides four 12 V outputs (switched ON/OFF together) and two independent 12 V PWM dew heater channels, which can also be switched to constant 12 V - increasing the total number of 12 V outputs to six. The maximum total distributed current is 10 A. A built-in temperature and humidity sensor plus AutoDew functionality can automatically tune PWM levels based on calculated dew point. The integrated powered USB hub offers 2 USB 3.x ports and 2 USB 2.0 ports, while USB ports can deliver up to 3 A (5 V) to compatible devices.
This combined package preserves the software integration and control options of both devices. NYX-101 supports wireless 802.11g and USB2 (simultaneous operation), and is compatible with ASCOM 7, native ASCOM Alpaca, INDI and the LX200 protocol. An integrated web server enables native Alpaca access directly from a web browser. Saddle Powerbox can be controlled from a PC via USB, or used in standalone mode - once configured, it can restore saved settings at startup without requiring a computer connection every time.
