Capture spectacular wide-angle deep-sky images in seconds with Celestron's portable astrograph, the 8-inch Rowe-Ackermann Schmidt Astrograph (RASA). This ultra-fast F/2.0 system is ideal for color CMOS cameras, smaller CCD cameras, and fail-safe cameras. The short focal length produces sharp, detailed images. In many cases, you can bypass the autoguider altogether.
The next member of the RASA family is the 8-inch version, which is the more portable and affordable version of its big brother, the RASA 11. With the arrival of the 8-inch RASA, a wider range of astrophotographers can take advantage of the amazing capabilities of this successful astrophotographer. This model shares many of the same features as its “big brother” the RASA 11, including integrated air cooling, internal filter mount and a sturdy CGE dovetail rail. Designed exclusively for photography, the 8-inch RASA cannot be used visually. The focal plane is located at the front of the optical system, so it cannot accommodate a traditional eyepiece. Because it is an F/2.0 optical system, very short exposure times are sufficient to capture detail in faint objects. When combined with sensitive cameras and appropriate "live" software, the 8-inch RASA can provide "near real-time" observations. Images can be displayed on a computer screen that are brighter and more detailed than can be seen with the naked eye in much larger telescopes. Because much shorter exposure times are possible, the equatorial mount will not need to track the motion of the sky accurately for long periods. The short focal length of 400 mm also reduces the requirements for tracking accuracy. In many cases, autoguiding will not be required. RASA 8” uses the Ultra-Stable Focus System (USFS), a solution known from the larger RASA 11 model. The system smoothes out lateral movements of the primary mirror when focusing, rotating or tracking objects in the sky. Unlike the larger RASAs, which work with DSLRs and large CCD cameras, the 8-inch model is designed for color astronomical CMOS cameras, smaller CCD cameras, and mirrorless cameras. The telescope does not work with standard DSLRs. It is optimized for sensors up to 22mm, but works well with sensors up to 32mm. APS-C size sensors used in many mirrorless cameras are a good choice. Full-frame 42mm sensors will also work, but performance at the sensor edges will be poor and field illumination will be reduced. We do not recommend pairing the RASA 8-inch with any camera body larger than 4 inches in diameter. The Advanced VX is Celestron's smallest German equatorial mount. The computerized GoTo function automatically tracks objects moving across the night sky. The Advanced VX mount includes ports for a remote control, autoguider, and 2 AUX ports for optional accessories. It is perfect for learning astrophotography. The Advanced VX mounts feature a double saddle plate that can accommodate both CG-5 and CGE style dovetails. It allows you to hang quite a wide range of optical tubes of different types. The mount is equipped with high-speed motors that cope better with heavier loads. The mount is equipped with a periodic error reduction option with PPEC characteristic recording. The autoguider can be used for tracking correction, and the head has a typical ST4 socket. From the mechanical side, the possibility of adjusting the polar axis using a large, comfortable screw is a great convenience - similar to the CGEM assembly. The whole thing is made ergonomically, it can be quickly and easily disassembled into its components for transport.
From the electronic side, the heart of the system is the Go-To NexStar+ controller. This controller is an improved version of the NexStar known from previous versions. The display's resistance to low temperatures is particularly noteworthy. The new controller is also more ergonomic and intuitive to use. The manufacturer's declared load capacity is 13.6 kg (without counterweights).
Note: power supply not included. The Advanced VX RASA 8 comes complete with an M42 camera adapter, a C-thread camera adapter and a fan battery pack. • telescope optical system: Rowe-Ackermann Schmidt Astrograph • Mounting type: Equatorial • aperture: 203 mm • focal length: 400 mm • aperture: f/2.0 • star range: 14.1 magnitude • maximum usable magnification: 406x • maximum resolving power (Rayleigh): 0.70" • maximum resolving power (Dawes): 0.57" • Collective capacity: 841 x • tube weight: 7.7 kg • assembly weight: 15.9 kg • counterweight: 5.4 kg • total weight: 29 kg • tube length: 628 mm • tube diameter: 235 mm • tripod type: steel 2" • stand height: 112 - 163 cm • assembly control: NexStar Go-To • Secondary mirror diameter: 93 mm • central obstruction: 46% • coatings: StarBright XLT
