The Player One CH 4 E-Series 1.25″ Filter (SKU: POA-CH4-125E) is a narrowband methane filter with an 8 nm bandwidth , designed for high-contrast planetary photography in the methane absorption band (~889 nm). By blocking light outside the narrow transmission range, the filter perfectly highlights details in the upper atmospheres of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, as well as the polar cloud structure of these planets. • narrowband transmission (FWHM ≈ 8 nm) located at 889 nm • high transmission in the CH 4 line >80% – excellent contrast for methane details • hard dielectric coatings (hard-coated) – resistance to scratches, moisture and aging • effective cut-off of the visible and further IR bands (blockage <0.1% beyond 880–896 nm) • optical glass class λ/4, parallel ≤30″ – no introduction of astigmatism • 1.25″ aluminum frame (M28.5 × 0.6) – compatible with most FD MINI filter pegs and drawers
• Diameter/frame: 1.25″ (M28.5 × 0.6), ring thickness 5 mm • substrate: optical glass, thickness 1.85 mm • central wavelength (CWL): 889 nm ± 1 nm • full width half-width (FWHM): 8 nm ± 0.5 nm • Bandwidth transmission: >80% • out-of-band blockage: <0.1% (380-870 nm and 897-1100 nm) • coatings: multilayer dielectric, double-sided • flatness: λ/4 (632.8 nm) • weight: 10 g
The CH 4 methane filter is indispensable for planetary photography enthusiasts who want to extract faint atmospheric structures. Combined with cameras with high sensitivity in the near infrared (e.g. Player One Neptune-CII) it allows to record contrasting images of cloud tops and equatorial belts, unavailable in visible light.
