NYX-88 Harmonic Gear Mount with factory-installed Saddle Powerbox (PegasusAstro, SKU: PEG-NYX88+PEG-SADDLEPBOX) is a travel-focused, cable-management-friendly bundle that combines a compact strain-wave mount with an integrated power-and-USB distribution saddle. In practice, you get a high payload-to-weight mount plus a central hub for power and data right at the mount head, helping to keep the moving part of the imaging train clean, short and organised.
NYX-88 uses strain wave (harmonic) drives on both RA and DEC axes, delivering backlash-free operation and high torque even at heavier payloads. With the mount weighing about 5 kg, the declared payload capacity is up to 14 kg without counterweights. If you need to run counterweights for higher loads, the mount supports a counterweight rod via an M12 threaded shaft hole at the end of the DEC axis. The body is CNC-machined from 6061 aluminium alloy and anodised in black and blue. Safety features include an electronic RA brake to prevent backsliding when power is off, as well as safety limit stops during slewing or tracking. The mount can operate in Equatorial (German EQ) or Alt-Azimuth mode, and switching modes is performed via PC software, a hand controller or a mobile app.
The factory-installed Saddle Powerbox combines a dual-standard telescope clamp (Vixen / 3" Losmandy) with 12 V power distribution and a powered USB hub. It provides four 12 V outputs switched on/off together as a single group, plus two independent 12 V PWM dew-heater channels that can also be switched to constant 12 V - increasing the total number of 12 V outputs to six. The total power budget is up to 10 A (120 W). Input voltage and total current are monitored via the built-in meter, making it easier to keep track of overall consumption. The integrated USB hub offers 2 × USB 3.x (SuperSpeed) and 2 × USB 2.0 ports, while USB ports can deliver up to 3 A for powering 5 V devices when needed.
An onboard temperature and humidity sensor supports the AutoDew function, which can automatically adjust PWM heater levels based on dew point readings. Control can be done via USB/PC or in standalone mode - once configured, the device can restore your settings on boot. The bundle supports popular control standards including ASCOM (including ASCOM Alpaca), INDI and the LX200 protocol, which simplifies integration with modern imaging software and mobile controllers.
