ZWO Seestar TH10 is a compact tripod head with fluid damping, designed primarily for positioning Seestar telescopes in equatorial (EQ) mode. It allows the direction and tilt angle of the device to be adjusted, making it easier to prepare the setup for astrophotography. Thanks to standard photographic mounting connections, it is also suitable for DSLR cameras, mirrorless cameras, video cameras and other optical devices equipped with an appropriate tripod socket.
When paired with a compatible Seestar, the TH10 serves as an adjustable base that allows the telescope's axis of rotation to be pointed towards the celestial pole. Correct polar alignment enables operation without the field rotation inherent in alt-azimuth tracking, which is important during extended imaging sessions of nebulae, galaxies and star clusters. Once the head has been positioned and locked, objects are tracked by the motors of the telescope operating in EQ mode. Setting up the system involves mechanically adjusting the TH10 and completing the polar alignment procedure by following the instructions in the Seestar app.
The fluid damping system provides smooth, controlled movement when repositioning the mounted device. The base rotates through a full 360°, while the tilt mechanism operates from −90° to +90°. This range allows both the telescope to be positioned for equatorial operation and a still or video camera to be pointed at the desired angle. Independent pan and tilt locking knobs allow both axes to be secured once adjustment is complete.
The head features pan and tilt angle scales that make it easier to position the equipment initially and return to a previously used position. The built-in bubble level helps check levelling, while a detachable handle with a soft grip provides comfortable control of the device. Removing the handle also makes it easier to pack the head for transport.
The removable quick-release plate makes attaching and removing a telescope or camera quick and easy. The plate can remain screwed to the device, ready to be slid into the head's clamp and secured with the knob the next time it is mounted. Safety screws at the ends of the plate engage with recesses in the head, reducing the risk of the quick-release plate accidentally sliding out.
The standard plate is fitted with a 1/4" screw, while the supplied adapters allow connection to devices with a 3/8" socket, including the Seestar S30 and S50 telescopes. The base of the head itself has a 3/8" female thread for mounting on a compatible tripod, monopod or tabletop mount. This makes it easy to use the TH10 in a variety of astronomical, photographic and video setups.
The body is made from CNC-machined aluminium alloy, combining the durability of a metal construction with compact dimensions. The head is 84 mm high, its base is 50 mm in diameter, and its net weight is 411 g. The maximum specified load capacity is 5 kg. This makes the TH10 a handy addition to a portable observing and photographic setup that can be taken on trips or quickly prepared for use in the garden.
Use with the Seestar S50 Pro: the manufacturer recommends the dedicated Seestar TH10 3/8" Screw Quick Release Plate, designed to improve imaging stability in EQ mode. This is a separate accessory, different from the standard plate with a 1/4" screw and adapter listed among the head's included accessories.
Note on the Seestar S50 + TH10 + TC20 setup: the manufacturer does not recommend using this configuration in equatorial mode at latitudes below 15°, as parts of the setup may collide with the tripod legs in certain positions.
