Taking impressive deep-sky images is easier than ever with Celestron's Rowe-Ackermann Schmidt Astrograph (RASA) V2. This very bright (f/2.2), wide-angle system allows for much shorter exposure times than traditional f/10 telescopes without sacrificing resolution.

At very short exposure times, the tracking errors of an equatorial mount will be small. The short focal length also reduces the requirements for tracking accuracy. In many cases, autoguiding will not be required.

RASA 11 V2 offers an accurate and sharp image in a field with a diameter of 43.3 mm - such a diagonal has a sensor matrix for a full frame of 24x36 mm. The image quality with a diagonal of up to 52 mm will still be very good. The combination of an accurate and large imaging diameter with a focal length of only 620 mm gives an instrument suitable for wide-angle photos, creating huge mosaics of the night sky and even for searching for comets.

Optical efficiency

The RASA 11 V2 features 4-element rare earth glass optics. This allows for a coma-free and field-curvature-free image with faithful color reproduction. The optical quality and spot size throughout the image circle are unprecedented for an astrograph in this price range. This optical design also ensures minimal vignetting.

Advanced Features

The RASA 11 V2 utilizes the new Ultra-Stable Focus System (USFS). The heart of this system is a precision linear ball bearing. The bearing is used to minimize focus shift (the unwanted lateral movement of the primary mirror during focusing that causes the image to shift) and mirror flop (the slight shifting of the primary mirror when the telescope is pointed at different directions at the sky). The USFS is also compatible with the optional Celestron Focus Motor (#94155-A). An integrated 12V DC MagLev fan shortens the cool-down time of the primary mirror and ensures optimal airflow through the optical tube.

Every element of the RASA 11 V2 is optimized for maximum performance with DSLR and astronomical cameras. The CGE dovetail rail on top of the optical tube provides connection for optional accessories such as a guide scope.

Installation

The Celestron CGX equatorial mount is the successor to the well-known and proven Celestron CGEM model. It is a modern German equatorial mount with a Go-To system with a high load capacity of up to 25 kilograms, compatible with the StarSense system and WiFi modules. The mount was designed completely from scratch. We have a completely new drive, free from backlash, without gears, completely based on belt transmissions. The motors used are characterized by a higher rotational speed, ensuring better operation under increased loads. The motor directly drives the brass worm via a toothed belt, and this transfers the drive to the stainless steel gear wheel. The elements of the mount are connected by internal wiring, all ports are placed in a stationary way, there is no risk of the power cable being torn off due to the movement of the mount axis. At the same time, the mount is equipped with safety features to prevent the optical tube from hitting the tripod.

The mount is equipped with home position sensors that allow the telescope to be parked and then taken off from the correct position. In cooperation with PlaneWave, new software has been developed that allows for precise control of equatorial head errors, ensuring very high precision in object positioning, perfect for astrophotography applications.

Mechanically, a stronger tripod was used. The position of the equatorial head relative to the tripod can be adjusted to better balance the set. The mount can be used in the range of latitudes from 3 to 65 degrees. Both Vixen standard tubes and CGE (Losmandy) standard tubes can be attached to the head, a saddle supporting both standards was used.

The assembly stands out from its predecessors in terms of ergonomics. Comfortable handles were used to carry the head, large, comfortable screws fastening the dovetail in the saddle, and the method of setting the axis to the celestial pole was modernized.

A very practical change is the introduction of a USB port on the NexStar+ remote control. This allows you to connect the mount without the need for additional adapters, as was the case until now. The telescope can be operated using the software included in the set. Celestron CGX has two AUX ports for connecting additional devices and an Autoguider port. The mount is equipped with the well-known GoTo NexStar+ controller with a database of 40 thousand objects.
