The CGX series telescopes are equipped with the excellent Celestron CGX equatorial mount, which is the successor to the popular CGEM mount. Here you will find Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes with apertures of 8", 9.25" and 11".
The top-of-the-range CGX 1100 HD telescope with Schmidt-Cassegrain optics, excellent StarBright XLT optical coatings, and a computerized CGX equatorial mount. Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope with a diameter of 279mm (11") and a focal length of 2800mm. Despite the large aperture, this telescope is very compact and its usability is high. When equipped with a T-Adapter and T-Ring, the tube can be used as an efficient astrograph. The Schmidt telescope is a device with a universal light intensity and a relatively large focal length. A great advantage of such a telescope is the possibility of extending the focus significantly outside the tube, which allows the use of elements with a large optical path - binocular attachments, filter wheels, flip-mirror attachments, focal length reducers, etc. With a tube weighing only 13 kg, the telescope is mobile enough to take it to a dark sky. The collecting capacity of the CGX 1100 model is 89% greater than 8" telescopes and 40% larger than 9.25" telescopes. An innovative Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope in an aplanatic version with a modified aspherical correction plate and modern StarBright XLT coatings. The new technology, designated as EDGE-HD, allows for obtaining a flat and defect-free field of view, ideal for astrophotography. The new system in particular reduces coma and improves resolution at the edge of the field of view. This technology allows for obtaining excellent results even in the case of large-format CCD cameras - correct images are obtained even for matrices with a diagonal of 52 mm. Compared to standard optical tubes, EDGE HD tubes also have a number of mechanical improvements. Among others, the mounting of the main mirror has been improved, eliminating the so-called mirror shift (mirror wobble).
The rear part of the tube has ventilation holes with special filters that prevent dust from entering the tube. In addition, these holes accelerate the process of equalizing the temperature inside the tube with the ambient temperature, which is of paramount importance for the quality of the image obtained. All EDGE-HD telescopes are equipped with the Fastar system, which allows the CCD camera to be placed directly in the primary focus of the telescope. The collimation procedure has also been simplified, which can now be performed with knobs without the use of tools. The Celestron CGX equatorial mount is the successor to the well-known and proven Celestron CGEM model. It is a modern German equatorial mount with a Go-To system with a high load capacity of up to 25 kilograms, compatible with the StarSense system and WiFi modules. The mount was designed completely from scratch. We have a completely new drive, free from backlash, without gears, completely based on belt transmissions. The motors used are characterized by a higher rotational speed, ensuring better operation under increased loads. The motor directly drives the brass worm via a toothed belt, and this transfers the drive to the stainless steel gear wheel. The elements of the mount are connected by internal wiring, all ports are placed in a stationary way, there is no risk of the power cable being torn off due to the movement of the mount axis. At the same time, the mount is equipped with safety features to prevent the optical tube from hitting the tripod.
The mount is equipped with home position sensors that allow the telescope to be parked and then taken off from the correct position. In cooperation with PlaneWave, new software has been developed that allows for precise control of equatorial head errors, ensuring very high precision in object positioning, perfect for astrophotography applications.
Mechanically, a stronger tripod was used. The position of the equatorial head relative to the tripod can be adjusted to better balance the set. The mount can be used in the range of latitudes from 3 to 65 degrees. Both Vixen standard tubes and CGE (Losmandy) standard tubes can be attached to the head, a saddle supporting both standards was used.
The assembly stands out from its predecessors in terms of ergonomics. Comfortable handles were used to carry the head, large, comfortable screws fastening the dovetail in the saddle, and the method of setting the axis to the celestial pole was modernized.
A very practical change is the introduction of a USB port on the NexStar+ remote control. This allows you to connect the mount without the need for additional adapters, as was the case until now. The telescope can be operated using the software included in the set. Celestron CGX has two AUX ports for connecting additional devices and an Autoguider port. The mount is equipped with the well-known GoTo NexStar+ controller with a database of 40 thousand objects. • telescope optical system: Schmidt-Cassegrain • type of mounting: parallactic • aperture: 279 mm • focal length: 2800 mm • aperture: f/10.0 • star range: 14.8 magnitude • maximum usable magnification: 558 x • maximum resolving power (Rayleigh): 0.51" • maximum resolving power (Dawes): 0.42" • Collective capacity: 1589 x • tube weight: 13 kg • assembly weight: 28.7 kg • counterweights: 3 x 5 kg • total weight: 56 kg • tube length: 610 mm • tube diameter: 312 mm • type of stand: steel 2 • stand height: 120 - 197 cm • assembly control: NexStar Go-To • type of eyepiece: SCT/MAK • Focuser diameter: 2" • micro-movements of the focuser: no • Secondary mirror diameter: 95 mm • central obstruction: 34% • coatings: StarBright XLT • mounting rail: Losmandy • warranty for electronics: 24 months
