The Astronomik SII 6nm CCD Filter 2" (M48) (SKU: 10216600 / 8h00nm) is a narrowband emission filter designed for imaging nebulae that emit light in the sulfur [SII] lines. It records radiation at wavelengths of 671.7 nm and 673.0 nm, significantly increasing contrast between the object and the sky background. The 2" (M48) filter format is intended for use in filter wheels, telescope focusers and astronomical cameras using this common filter standard.

The filter effectively blocks light pollution from sodium and mercury vapor lamps, natural airglow and a large portion of moonlight. This allows high-contrast nebula imaging both from heavily light-polluted locations and under dark skies.

The narrow 6 nm bandwidth efficiently suppresses unwanted light at other wavelengths from ultraviolet to infrared. This filter is particularly useful for imaging faint objects in star-rich regions of the Milky Way and from locations with extreme light pollution.

The SII filter is an important component of a narrowband imaging set. Combined with H-alpha and OIII filters it allows emission-line imaging using the popular HSO palette, similar to images produced by the Hubble Space Telescope.

Key features

• narrowband SII filter for emission nebula imaging
• transmission band covering the [SII] lines at 671.7 nm and 673.0 nm
• bandwidth: 6 nm
• filter standard: 2" (M48)
• effective suppression of light pollution
• very high contrast imaging of nebular structures
• blocking of unwanted light from UV to IR
• Astronomik MFR coating for high transmission and minimal stray light

Included items

• Astronomik SII 6nm CCD Filter 2" (M48)
• durable protective filter box

Technical specifications

• type: SII narrowband filter
• emission lines: 671.7 nm, 673.0 nm
• bandwidth (FWHM): 6 nm
• guaranteed transmission at SII lines: over 90%
• typical transmission at SII lines: 93%
• mounting standard: 2" (M48)
• glass thickness: 1 mm
• material: finely polished optical glass free of streaks, internal stress and bubbles
• coating: Astronomik MFR
• focal ratio range: f/4 – f/∞
• coating durability: highly resistant to scratches, humidity and aging
• optical characteristics: parfocal, diffraction-limited design

The Astronomik SII 6nm CCD filter allows astrophotographers to capture sulfur emission structures with extremely high contrast and fine detail even under challenging observing conditions.
