The 180mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Advanced VX telescope is a specialist instrument for detailed, high-contrast observations that sets the standard for mid-range telescopes. With its Maksutov-Cassegrain optical tube and sturdy Advanced VX equatorial mount and tripod, this set delivers detailed, high-contrast views of the Moon and planets.

It is a catadioptric telescope, which means that the optical design consists of a lens and a mirror. Light enters through a corrective lens, after being reflected from the primary mirror, runs back to the spherical secondary mirror, is reflected again and hits the eyepiece. The images are bright, sharp and practically free of chromatic aberration.

The Maksutov-Cassegrain optical design offers several unique advantages. Instead of a secondary mirror, the Mak has a "secondary spot" of reflective coating applied directly to the interior of the corrector plate. Because of this, the telescope does not require frequent collimation like the Schmidt-Cassegrain. In addition, the secondary spot is much smaller than a traditional Schmidt-Cassegrain secondary mirror, allowing the Mak to produce higher contrast images.

In the case of Maksutov-Cassegrain telescopes, the larger and heavier Maksutov corrector plate needs more time to cool and adjust to the ambient air temperature compared to a Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope of the same aperture. The tube is equipped with a 2-inch star diagonal with a 1.25-inch reduction, a 28-mm focal length eyepiece, and an 8x50 finder scope.

The Advanced VX Computerized German Equatorial Mount is Celestron's smallest German equatorial mount. The computerized GoTo function automatically tracks objects moving across the night sky. The Advanced VX mount includes ports for a remote control, autoguider, and 2 AUX ports for optional accessories. It is perfect for learning astrophotography. The Advanced VX mounts feature a double saddle plate that can accommodate both CG-5 and CGE style dovetails. It allows you to hang a fairly wide range of optical tubes of different types. The mount is equipped with high-speed motors that handle heavier loads better. The mount is equipped with a periodic error reduction option with PPEC characteristic recording. The autoguider can be used for tracking correction, and the head has a standard ST4 socket. From the mechanical side, the possibility of adjusting the polar axis using a large, comfortable screw is a great convenience - similar to the CGEM assembly. The whole thing is made ergonomically, it can be quickly and easily disassembled into its components for transport.

From the electronic side, the heart of the system is the Go-To NexStar+ controller. This controller is an improved version of the NexStar known from previous versions. The display's resistance to low temperatures is particularly noteworthy. The new controller is also more ergonomic and intuitive to use. The manufacturer's declared load capacity is 13.6 kg (without counterweights).

Note: power supply not included.
